Our Centre

Centre Information

The Woodroffe Child Care Centre has been in operation since 1994. We are a community-based, non-profit organisation which means all money made is reinvested in to the Centre for the benefit of our children through the purchase of toys and education equipment, improvements and maintenance to the Centre, as well as the ongoing education, training and support of our staff.

As a community-based non-profit Centre, we rely on the good nature of our families to occasionally assist in volunteering their time to the Centre.  The Centre is managed by the voluntary Parent Management Committee which is elected each year at the Annual General Meeting.

‘We strive to make sure that when you join Woodroffe Child Care Centre as a child, parent or an educator, you are not only joining our team, but you are becoming part of our family’.

Operating Hours

Our Centre is open from 7.00am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday, it closed on NT public holidays and over the Christmas period. Advanced notice will be given when these days occur.

Meals

The Centre provides healthy and nutritious morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late afternoon fruit, included in the cost of fees. Our friendly cook prepares a four-weekly rotational menu in-house, using fresh fruit and veg.

We have an aquaponics set-up with herbs and vegetables, and we grow local fruit and vegetables in our garden to use in our kitchen. Our children help to maintain and harvest our edible garden and learn how to cook and eat the produce.

At Woodroffe we value mealtimes and understand that these periods of the day are important for children. Mealtimes are not rushed, and they are moments in the day where we are able to sit down with the children and engage in conversations, observe social and emotional connections children have with each other and relationships with their food.

Facilities

Our Centre has an indoor air-conditioned space with a separate room for our younger children. We have large verandahs and a big, grassed yard with lots of trees where our children can roam, explore and play safely.

We are committed to embedding sustainable education & providing natural play environments for our children to explore.

“Go and open the door. Maybe outside there’s a tree, or a wood, a garden or a magic city.”
